Cedar & Stone 604 555 0118

Two people, one crew, since 2011.

Cedar & Stone started because a landscaper and a draughtsman kept getting handed each other's problems. Gardens were being drawn by people who had never laid a stone, and built by people who had never drawn a plan.

So we do both. The same two people who measure your garden and draw it are on site when it gets built, every day, until it is finished. There is no project manager and no subcontracted crew you have never met.

Why we draw first

A garden built without a drawing is a garden built twice. Levels get discovered halfway through, drainage becomes an argument, and the planting ends up being whatever the nursery had that week.

A measured plan costs a few hundred dollars and settles all of it before anyone turns a sod. If you take the drawing and build it yourself, or hand it to someone cheaper, that is genuinely fine — it is yours.

What we plant, and why

This is a wet coastal winter and an increasingly dry August, and a lot of what gets sold in garden centres is happy with neither. We plant for the garden you actually have: shade under the maple, wind down the side return, the bed by the driveway that bakes.

We also plant at a density that fills in. A bed that looks slightly too full on the day it goes in looks right in two seasons. A bed that looks tidy on day one looks thin for five years.

What we are not

We are not a maintenance company, we do not install irrigation, and we do not build decks. There are people who do those things better than we would and we will happily give you their names.

Insurance and coverage

Cedar & Stone carries commercial general liability insurance and is registered with WorkSafeBC. Ask for the certificates before you let anyone dig in your garden — from us or from anybody else.

Where we work

Langley, Fort Langley, Walnut Grove, Cloverdale and South Surrey. We keep it tight on purpose: being twenty minutes away is what makes it possible to come back and check on a garden a year later.

Come and walk the yard with us.

There's no charge for the visit, and no charge for the drawing that comes after it.
