A colour is never one colour

An empty room part-way through being repainted, one wall finished, canvas dust sheets over the floor.

The same wall, the same colour, six different times of day.

This is the most expensive mistake people make. A colour chosen from a chip under shop lighting is not the colour that ends up on a north-facing wall in Kitsilano. We leave samples on your actual wall and ask you to look at them for two days before you decide.

This is a chromatic adaptation between daylight temperatures, damped to allow for the fact that your eye compensates for a lot of it. Which is the catch: standing in the room you adapt and it looks fine, but the colour has still moved relative to everything else in there — and that is what people notice a week later.
