What the last few months looked like.

Photographed as we went. One of these is a colour we talked the owner out of, which turned out to be the useful part.

A north-facing bedroom that needed warming up

The owner had chosen a cool grey from a chip. In a north-facing room it would have gone flat and slightly blue by three o'clock. We put three samples up, she looked at them for a weekend, and picked a warm off-white instead.

Point Grey

Sash windows, brushed by hand

Eleven original sashes, painted shut by somebody at some point in the 1990s. Freed off, filled, and brushed in enamel. All eleven open again, which was most of the point.

Getting the line right

There is no trick to a clean line at the ceiling. It is caulk, a good brush and not rushing. Tape helps and does not do it for you — this one was cut by hand and the tape was only there to protect the ceiling.

Six samples, two days, one decision

Painted straight onto the wall, big enough to actually read, in two places in the room. We left them up and came back on the Monday. It costs us a return visit and it is the cheapest thing we do.
